3 Mindful Moments

Ways to be more mindful in your day

When life is busy, particularly right now when we’re in the (hopefully!) tail end of the pandemic, it has never been more important to try to ‘switch off’. A great way to start to do this is to introduce moments of mindfulness in your day. It doesn’t have to involve a lot of time, sometimes little moments of mindfulness can be found in the most unusual of places. Read on for 3 ways to be more mindful….

1. Shower Meditation

How many times do you jump in the shower, go on autopilot and don’t even notice what you’re doing? It becomes a quick part of your morning (or evening) routine. Anxiety can be helped by routine but it is also easy to rush through your shower whilst running through the daily to do list in your brain – exhausting! Water can be a great relaxer so why not try being a bit more mindful as you have your shower. Allow the water to run over your body and visualise the stresses and strains of the day washing away down the plughole. When you use your favourite shampoo, or shower gel, really take notice of the smell and the texture of how it feels. Take a minute to massage your head. Bliss!

2. Time for a cuppa

For many of us, making that first morning cup of coffee can become a ritual in itself. This is a great opportunity to take a moment to be mindful. Take some time to really smell the coffee as it brews. Take notice of how it makes you feel – more awake? invigorated? Then, as you hold the cup notice how the heat feels against the skin of your hand. That warming feeling, really think about the texture of the cup. And if you don’t like coffee? Try a herbal tea – with so many fruity flavours to choose from, you’ll find a mindful minute with ease.

3. Mindful Hands

With the plethora of different hand sanitisers and hand washes that we’re using right now, no doubt our hands could do with a little TLC. After washing, try using a lovely hand cream to nourish your skin. As you do so, concentrate on how the cream feels on your skin, look at your hands and be grateful for all they can do for you. If you like a scented hand cream, take a moment to enjoy the scent.

So there’s your 3 mindful moments. Give them a go and see if you can find other moments in your day to be a little more mindful.
